New: I am in the process of bettering myself as a person. So, I've decided to take my flaws a polish them up. Natural: I'm going natural! YAY! I'm transitioning my hair from relaxed to natural to keep me on track with my "NEW" goals as well as to learn how to better take care of my daughter's beautiful natural curly hair. Me: I'm learning more about myself everyday. I want to take what I learn and apply it to my "NEW, NATURAL, LIFE." I love me, but I want to be in love with me! :-D

My most googled topic
Ok, so the topic that I Google most about is my daughter's eczema. I HATE the fact that she has it and it breaks my heart every time she has a flair up which is very often. My husband and I have tried pretty much everything that we can think of and that I have googled. We've tried prescriptions, natural creams and oils, and even CRISCO! Nothing seems to give her long term relief from her severely dry skin and itches. I feel so bad about it but I'm not going to stop trying either. SO my question is to those of you that have dealt with this skin condition WHAT WORKS?! 0_o

Hey Candice. I feel so bad for your little one. I had an awful, awful outbreak of eczema two summers ago. It doesn't sound nearly as bad as what your little one is going through, but one thing I was told is that I need to trap in as much moisture as possible into my skin, so after a shower or bath, instead of fully drying off, I will put on lotion while my skin is still very wet. This will helps the skin absorb more moisture. And I have also noticed that taking Zyrtec helps. May sound random, but I think antihistamines like Zyrtec or Benadryl helps control flare ups. Maybe there is something like zyrtec that would be safe for her to take? As long as I take a Zyrtec every night and do the lotion thing after a shower, I keep my eczema under control. I also have the creams for when it does get out of control. Oatmeal baths are nice too. Hope this helps!

Thanks Stephanie! Yes we've tried and are still giving her oatmeal baths because it makes her skin so soft afterward. I will try to put her moisturizer on her while she is wet and see if that helps. She had a prescription anti histamine and honestly to me it didn't keep her itching under control. I've gotten her skin to smooth out before but it never stays that way because of the itching and she will scratch until she bleeds even with her nails cut as short as I can get them. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh, and a few other things I forgot to mention...You should switch all your soaps to sensitive skin soaps and this also goes for laundry detergents. I have found that even some sensitive skin laundry detergents make me itch, I like Arm and Hammer. If she is worse at night while laying in her bed/crib, you may want to get allergy covers for the mattress and pillows. And finally, avoid giving her baths in hot water. It dries out the skin and will make her even more itchy! Ok, that's all I got for now!
ReplyDeleteLOL I did all of that. We wash everything in free ans clear detergent. Her clothes, our clothes, and everything else she touches. I started putting a cool air humidifier to try and keep her moist over night because that's a big problem. Nothing so far has kept her moisturized through out the night. Sometimes in the morning when we change her clothes it looks like her top layer of skin flaked off on her clothes and she is dry as a bone. :-(
ReplyDeleteLol, I figured you probably already knew all that, but oh well! I feel so bad for her and for you guys! Her case is much worse than mine. Hopefully she will grow out of this! I had it when I was younger and then it went away entirely until about 2 years ago. If you haven't already, you might want join some online forums for parents. I bet you there are discussions like this all over the place! Maybe you can find some better advice! Hope it gets better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Steph! :-)
